Overheating
The Beast has had to run over the passes of the Mountain Kingdom Of Lesotho. The Beast had to fight up 1 :: 5 gradients for over 25 kilometres. I kept an eagle eye on the temperature gauge, no problem. About 4 kilometres from the top ,The Beast lost power and was missing. The temperature gauge was just under red. I pulled over and left the engine running and the temperature needle did not budge for 5 minutes before rapidly dropping back to normal. We had to stop another time on this 1000 meter climb over 20 kilometres. The engine compartment was not as hot as Botswana where all the elements inside the engine area were scalding if touched, the outside temperature was 50 degrees in Botswana, but the temperature gauge normal. The slow heavy climbs were causing the engine to heat.
I checked the coolant which was full, the engine oil had no more and no less than before and no water in the oil, hopefully I have not cooked the engine. We decided to continue. At the end of the day I check the fuel filter, it is filthy, the diesel has large pieces of rust but no water in it. The injectors are probably damaged and contributing to poor fuel consumption and heating. We are going to need to remove the diesel tanks and clean them or put new ones in. Then fix the injectors. Also the air conditioner radiators probably reducing airflow efficiency over the radiator at the low speeds of 20 kilometres an hour.
May be we will have to find alternative ways of doing the air conditioning, like a roof unit.
